Cromer Long Exposure Photography Workshop

Sunset behind Cromer Pier

If you enjoy landscape photography or seascape photography then this is the workshop for you. This long exposure photography workshop will help you to get control over the look of water and clouds in your images. You will learn how to manipulate shutter speeds to freeze splashes of water, make it silky smooth or even create a misty effect. Cromer is a great venue for this type of photography. It is one of Norfolk’s most iconic places and the structure of the pier and the sea defences make great photographic subjects.

You will need to bring a tripod to get the most out of the evening as we shall be working in low light. If you don’t own one and can’t borrow one from a friend please do get in touch and we may be able to arrange for you to use one on the night. Your camera needs to have manual controls to allow you to alter the aperture, shutter speed and ISO. It is useful to use a cable release or remote shutter release to reduce the amount of vibration when taking photos on a tripod. If you have your own ND filters and/or polariser please do bring them along.

You will need to be familiar with the main controls of your DSLR. If you aren’t yet, then please try our beginners photography workshop first. We will be shooting in Aperture Priority and Manual Mode. If you are at all unsure about the suitability of your equipment or your skill level, please do get in touch and Joe will happily advise you.

There is ample parking available in Cromer and details of suggested parking places will be sent with the final workshop details to participants a few days beforehand. If you would like to make a longer day of it then I do recommend spending the day in Cromer and trying the fish and chips – especially the “No. 1” on the corner above the pier. We hope to get a good sunset, but of course this can never be guaranteed. If the weather looks like it will be really bad then we will re-arrange the workshop accordingly.

Your tutor will be Joe Lenton. He holds an Associateship with the Society of International Nature and Wildlife Photographers specialising in Norfolk sunrises and sunsets. His work has featured in exhibitions in the UK and overseas and has won various awards at international level. Joe is an experienced tutor, who loves passing on his passion for photography.
