Night photography can be just as interesting as being out during the day shooting landscapes. It is an opportunity to try new things such as shooting light trails. In this workshop we will learn the techniques needed for cityscape photography at night, including how to get good light trails in your images and what to watch out for. The city of Norwich has a good mix of architecture and lighting. There are plenty of good compositions to be found and many good spots to shoot from without having to walk far. You don’t need any previous experience of taking photos at night. All the techniques and camera controls will be covered on the night in simple, easy to understand explanations and demonstrations.

You will need to have a camera that allows you to control all the settings manually (shutter speed, aperture and ISO). This is normally shown by it having a “M” (manual) mode. A tripod is essential. It may be possible to lend you one if you don’t have one. Please make sure to ask in advance to ensure there is a spare available for you on the night if you need it. Ideally, a shutter release cable is useful but not absolutely essential. It will make your light trails photography much easier. Similarly to landscape photography, night cityscapes are normally shot with a fairly wide angle lens. As long as you have something that goes to around 18mm (or 24mm on full-frame cameras) you should be able to get plenty in the frame. If you have any concerns about equipment please do get in touch.
